Mumei Ôdachi attributed to Kanetsune 

This Ôdachi is unsigned, but believed to have been made by Kanetsune during the Momoyama era (1582 - 1602).  

It has a nagasa (cutting edge) of 120.9 cm and sori (curvature) of 3.3 cm.

Mumei Ôdachi

Mei (name): Mumei - attributed to Kanetsune. 

Location: Shiogama Jinja, Miyagi.

Period: Momoyama (1582 - 1602). 

Sugata (shape): Shinogi-zukuri, iori-mune, high sori .

Hada (grain): Itame with chikei.

Hamon (temper pattern): Gunome with choji.

This Ôdachi is attributed to Kanetsune, a famous swordsmith in the Nara group.  He was famous during the Sue Seki era and was even famous in China.  This Ôdachi was used by the Date clan in the Chosen (North/South Korea) campaign (1592).
